'All we want is change:' Incoming DuBois council members speak out following latest charges against
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — DuBois city council met Monday night for the first time since new charges were filed against suspended city manager Herm Suplizio last week.
6 News attended the meeting and spoke with some of the candidates running for council about their plans to right what they say are the wrongs of those that came before them.
Monday night’s council meeting featured some back and forth between the public and city solicitor Toni Cherry.
Incoming council member Jen Jackson told her that she will not have her position come January.
“All I wanted is change, I want a good city, I want people who are ethical and moral and you’re right, if I’m elected, the first day you will be gone.”
Jackson spoke about how all she wants is change. She talked about how she is running for council because residents are not happy about how much the city has been keeping to themselves.
This all comes from the ongoing investigation of suspended city manager Herm Suplizio.
The attorney general’s office filed thirteen new felonies against Sulpizio last week.
New court documents allege that city solicitor Toni Cherry kept $93,000 hidden from investigators.
Jackson added that at a work council meeting last Thursday, Mayor Ed Walsh reportedly made a comment that he “said too much.”
“You can’t say enough, we’re taxpayers, we have a right to know what’s going and that’s all we want is the truth. I didn’t realize it was going to be such a fight to get it in the city of DuBois.”
In late August, Jackson and others filed an injunction against the city to stop the termination and buyout process of Sulpizio.
She said that that they had to file a ‘Right to Know’ to get access to information that should be public knowledge.
She talked about how she wants to be transparent when she gets into office.
“I really want us to be transparent and work with the citizens. I want to hear their input. I don’t want this to be a one man show like it’s been for years. We want to work with the citizens of this town and make it a good place to live.”
Current council member Pat Reasinger is part of the group that Jackson is running with. He also spoke about his reaction to the new charges and information that came out last week.
“I was astounded at how detailed the affidavit was, I read all 49 pages. I was astounded at all the evidence and everything that they have.”
After the meeting, council called an executive session to discuss litigation surrounding the ongoing criminal investigation.
