Altoona Curve prepare for 2019 season

ALTOONA — Minor league baseball teams go through player personnel turnover from year to year.
The Altoona Curve are no different. But, this year's team is loaded with players, who have experience at the MILB Double-A level.
The opening day roster has 15 players that spent time with the Curve during the 2018 campaign.
This group will be led by third-year Curve Manager Michael Ryan. He has directed the club to two straight division titles, during his time in Altoona.
BENNER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — In the lead-up to the summer games at Penn State, Special Olympics Pennsylvania held a day of competition for our region's bowlers on Sunday at Bellefonte Lanes, in Benner Township, as well as across the state.
Asked how it feels to be on the lanes again, bowler Damian Smith said, "Feels pretty good. First time back this season."
Over 70 athletes tried to knock down some pins on Sunday.
BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — Altoona Area School District officials confirmed that a student at Penn Lincoln Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. Superintendent Dr. Charles Prijatelj says the district was notified by a parent, late Tuesday.
District officials have contacted parents and are awaiting guidance from the Department of Health, Prijatelj added.
School officials did note that one class at the elementary school was asked to stay home Wednesday, but the grade level of the student, and class, have not yet been announced.

PUNXSUTAWNEY - A gun shop in Jefferson County does not agree with Dick's Sporting Goods' decision to stop selling assault-style rifles and to not sell guns to anyone under the age of 21.
Nick Wehrle is the owner of Mahoning Valley Milling located on Indiana Street in Punxsutawney. Wehrle said as a local gun shop, he will continue to sell assault rifles unless legally forced to stop.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, a vehicle registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity. The plate needs to be replaced once it’s illegible. In order to facilitate plate replacements, PA state senator Wayne Langerholc organized an event with the Northern Cambria Police Department where people were able to line up inside their vehicles and fill out the necessary paperwork on the spot.

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reportedly addressed the players and coaches on Tuesday and informed them that he plans on returning to the team in 2024.
For the past several weeks, there has been speculation that Tomlin may "step down" as the Steelers head coach at the end of the season and discuss his future with his family.
According to reports from ESPN and NFL Insider Mike Garafolo, Tomlin allegedly addressed said speculation less than 24 hours after the Steelers' playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.
YORK, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man has been acquitted in the death of a friend’s toddler son more than four years ago.
Jurors in York County Court deliberated for about two hours Friday before acquitting 43-year-old Tyree Bowie of first- and third-degree murder as well as child endangerment in the September 2018 death of 2-year-old Dante Mullinix.
Bowie had been caring for Mullinix while the boy’s mother was in the hospital.
