PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pennsylvania officials say a newly built bridge to replace the one that collapsed earlier this year in Pittsburgh will open to traffic by the end of December. Gov. Tom Wolf and other state and local officials marked the announcement Wednesday by walking across the new Fern Hollow bridge and holding a ribbon-cutting. Wolf called the speedy work “the power of government working for the people in Pennsylvania.”

If you’ve driven on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, you’ve driven on the most expensive toll road in the world, one study claims. The Australian insurance company, Budget Direct, recently released a report looking at the prices of toll roads in 20 countries. According to the report, drivers can expect to pay $112.91 when traveling the 360-mile length of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The second most expensive toll road in the world is the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria with a cost of $45.

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Cambria County District Attorney's office confirmed that a trial date has been set for a Johnstown mother accused of abusing and killing her daughter. Police charged 39-year-old Veronica Lewis with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and child endangerment last May for her role in the death of 14-month-old Gianna Rice-Lewis. Last April, authorities were dispatched to a home along Grove Ave. where they found the toddler unresponsive.

Research animal breeder Envigo pleaded guilty to animal welfare and environmental crimes on Monday following a two-year investigation into its mistreatment of at least 4,000 beagles, prosecutors with the U.S. Justice Department announced. In a news release, the U.S. Justice Department saidEnvigo is facing more than $35 million in penalties, including a $22 million fine, for conspiring to knowingly violate the Animal Welfare Act and the Clean Water Act. Our nation’s animal welfare and clean water laws exist to prevent suffering and harm,” Assistant Attorney General Todd Kim of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division noted in the release.

The community gathered once again to commemorate a local paramedic that died in the line of duty. Janice Keen-Livingston was killed in 2015 while helping those involved in an accident on an icy morning on Menoher Boulevard in Upper Yoder Township. Family and friends as well as local first responders held a ceremony at the Summer Hill Fire Department early Saturday morning to dedicate a bridge in honor of Janice.
