Albuquerque, NM — It is a sight you would not expect to see inside a school classroom, students fighting each other swords. But that is exactly what happened inside one high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico about two years ago, and it was all caught on camera. One of the students was injured and her family is now suing the school district for allowing it to happen. "Our client says the teacher came in and said I have a surprise for you guys,” the student’s attorney said.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. (TND) — A pair of bald eagles in West Virginia has given birth to a baby eaglet, and the little one's first moments of life were caught on camera. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Conservation Training Center's Eagle Cam, stationed high up in a tree in near Shepherdstown, has been observing the lives of the two eagles named Bella and Smitty. The proud new parents welcomed their eaglet Sunday afternoon after two days of rainy weather.
WASHINGTON (TND) — Pro-Palestinian demonstrators rocking college campuses have made it clear they aren’t relenting anytime soon. Activists say they plan to carry on well past graduation into summer. The unrest on campus pushed some schools including Columbia University and the University of Southern California to cancel campus-wide graduation ceremonies. The rapidescalation of these protests in recent weeks shocked many. However, an analysis by the Wall Street Journal found many of these college students spent the past months coordinating with and being coached by well-established left-wing activist groups.
WASHINGTON (WJLA) — A police officer was shot in Washington, D.C. on Monday afternoon, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). An MPD official said the officer was shot in the Northwest area. The reported location is several blocks from MPD's Fourth District station. During a news conference on Monday, D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith said that as the officer was driving to work in his personal vehicle when he noticed a car driving erratically.
WESTMONT, Pa. (WJAC) -- a man is now in prison, facing several charges after police say he robbed a McDonald’s in Johnstown Saturday night. It happened at the McDonald’s on Plaza Drive in Lower Yoder Township. Police say former employee, 31-year-old Christopher Braswell Jr., robbed the restaurant right before closing, about 20 minutes before 11. According to the criminal complaint, the general manager told police Braswell was fired from that McDonald’s on Saturday after being suspect in two other theft-related incidents at the restaurant.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — R'Bonney Gabriel, a fashion designer, model and sewing instructor from Texas who competition officials said is the first Filipino American to win Miss USA, was crowned Miss Universe on Saturday night. Gabriel closed her eyes and clasped hands with runner-up Miss Venezuela, Amanda Dudamel, at the moment of the dramatic reveal of the winner, then beamed after her name was announced. Thumping music rang out, and she was handed a bouquet of flowers, draped in the winner's sash and crowned with a tiara onstage at the 71st Miss Universe Competition, held in New Orleans.
