ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — The James E. van Zandt VA medical center received an award for "Best Patient Experience" from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The facility scored the highest in the nation for patient experience, trust and best place to work, with a top overall combined experience score.
Sigrid Andrew, the VA medical center director said that the medical center was honored to receive the award.
She said this shows the team's spirit and commitment to making sure veterans are taken care of.
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Lawrence Township Police Department say the manager of a Clearfield County McDonald's is facing charges, accused of stealing hundreds of dollars from the fast-food restaurant located along South Second Street.
Police say charges are pending against 54-year-old Kelly Bennett after an investigation revealed that she had issued dozens of unauthorized refunds to herself.
Investigators say Bennett allegedly made 66 unauthorized transactions, between October and November of this year.
JOHNSTOWN — After a two-day trial and a surprise ruling by a judge that decided a portion of the case, a federal jury ordered Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center and Dr. John Chan to pay a Texas couple more than $47 million in damages for treatment that resulted in their daughter’s disfigurement.
In the courtroom, parents Ian Harker and Corradina Baldacchino were emotional as U.S. District Judge Kim Gibson read the jury's lengthy decision.
Penn State Altoona hosting golf tournament to support Blair Co. Children's Advocacy Center

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society is gearing up for its 6th community for kids golf tournament
It's scheduled to take place Aug. 3 at the Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with a shotgun starting at 9 a.m.
The cost is $125 per golfer, which includes a Tee It Up reception, food, gifts and prizes.
Organizers say the tournament benefits the Blair County Children’s Advocacy Center, the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society scholarship program and Penn State Altoona Athletics Student-Athlete Health and Wellness initiatives.

CEO and President of Wendy's, Kirk Tanner, announced in early February a plan to increase company profits by displaying dynamic pricing, also called surge pricing, on digital menu boards, according to Food and Wine. ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — For a long time now, the Miracle League of Blair County has been providing a space for the community to play baseball. Saturday, they honored their fallen teammates with a statue.
"Especially to the Miracle League players we have lost over the years, five of them have passed on, and we wanted to remember them today," said founder Joe Reed.
Reed told us the Blair County Miracle League has been running the bases for 15 years now.
Eagle Ironworks at Curtin Village

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — In our latest segment of Road Trippin’, the Eagle Ironworks at Curtin Village stands on the site of an Iron Furnace that was created by Roland Curtin and an associate in 1810.
The Eagle Ironworks was one of 20 iron furnaces operating in Centre County during the peak of iron making.
The mansion was also home to Roland Curtain’s son, Andrew Curtin, who was the governor of Pennsylvania, during the American Civil War.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — A company that's served the Johnstown area for about 130 years will receive an award in Chicago on Saturday.
Miller's of Johnstown got the recognition from an online publication, M-R magazine, for being one of only 12 clothing stores around the country to be open for more than 100 years.
One of the co-owners of Miller's, Taylor Clark, says the company has business practices that have helped it stay open for decades.
