WASHINGTON (TND) — Scientists are forecasting a rise in coronavirus cases throughout May as a new set of variants emerges, according to disease researcher Eric Topol. The variants, known as “FLiRT,” are distinguished by mutations in the disease’s spike proteins. These proteins help viruses attach to surfaces and are one of the factors behind the infectious nature of COVID-19. FliRT variants have mutations in areas designated “F for L” and “R for T,” Topol wrote via Substack.
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. — Three of the five judge candidates vying for Cambria County’s Court of Common Pleas will move on to the general election. They’ll look to fill two seats left open as President Judge Norman Krumenacker and Judge Patrick Kiniry. The five attorneys on the ballots were: Forrest Fordham, Michael Carbonara, Timothy Sloan, Brett Smith and Tonilyn Chippie Kargo. All of the candidates cross-filed meaning the appeared on both the Republican and Democratic ballots.

Even though we have a bigger show coming up at the end of September, the Keystone Cup, this is the traditional show.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A unique recreational area in Centre County is slated to get a new round of upgrades through a state funding grant. The Soaring Eagle Wetland is termed a nature preserve. The 135 acres is located just off of Route 220, near the village of Julian. One of the area's unique aspects is handicap accessibility, including a trail from the parking lot to a small landing along Bald Eagle Creek, for fishing.
MADISON COUNTY, Idaho (KBOI) — Lori Vallow Daybell has been transferred back to the Madison County Jail to await sentencing after beingfound guilty on all counts. Judge Boyce noted that a trial of this size and scope can take some time for a sentencing investigation to be concluded, saying it would likely be two to three months before the sentencing hearing is scheduled. Chad Daybell is still awaiting a trial date.

TYRONE, Pa. (WJAC) — An annual tradition in Tyrone is to march for the life of an dead baby girl found over 30 years ago. This Sunday, they'll do that again. 6 News spoke with those involved in the march and about the legacy she leaves. February 1987 in Antis Township, a baby girl is found dead in a plastic bag, next to a dumpster. Over three decades later, nobody knows her name or who she is — even after DNA testing.
